DISSCO aims at the development of an electronic records management system in support of basic administrative processes within scientific institutions.
For more information about electronic records management systems see the electronic records management system overview.
For this, DISSCO investigates the conditions with which an electronic records management system must comply. Basically, DISSCO will comply with the following records management and archival standards: ISO 15489, the Model Requirements for Electronic Records Management Systems and the General International Standard Archival Description.
For more information about archival standards see archival standards.
The software provides for the automated integration of the processes and their interfacing with the decision-making structure. It will also incorporate document management and workflow functionalities on the one hand, and interface with an archives management application on the other.
For more information about the DISSCO main functionalities see functionalities.
The software will be modular. Each project partner selected in consultation with the DISSCO Steering Committee one process qualified for automation and/or optimization. A software module will be developed for each process. Common basic functionalities, such as the administration of user access rights, will be integrated in the core system. The modules will be easily adaptable, so that they can be implemented by other organizations than the one they are developed for, and combinable.
For more information about the administrative processes see the administrative processes overview.
Although the software should be usable in as many scientific organizations as possible, under this project it will only be implemented by the project partners.
For more information about the DISSCO partners see project partners.
Since the software is intended for use in public organizations, development is based on recommendations, standards and open source solutions.
