The Royal Meteorological Institute invites applications for an instrument calibration scientist position
The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) tasks consist of providing general weather forecasts, to broadcast warnings for dangerous weather conditions, to keep an eye on climate, to gather, validate and archive meteorological and geophysical data, to manage the necessary infrastructure, and to develop numerical models and scientific research. The products and services of the RMI follow higher quality standards. The RMI is the national centre for data and knowledge on weather and climate.
The Observation departement is responsible for measuring essential variables of weather to support the tasks of the RMI. To reach a high quality standards in data measurement, calibration is of uttermost importance as it associates the measured value to a known physical reference. It also allows to estimate the uncertainty of the measurement giving reliability to measurements. This calibration process is realized in a controlled environment by a specialized technical team in a dedicated laboratory.
In the context of the internal ICAL project, RMI is hiring a scientist for its calibration laboratory. The position will be devoted to (1) the quality assessment of our calibration laboratory, (2) the development of new procedures for calibration, (3) the participation in international comparisons, (4) the estimation/calculation of our measurement uncertainty and, (5) the promote our observational data to internal and external users. The position is initially open for one year, but is intended to become a long term position.
