The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium wants to hire for a long term contract an Earth Radiation Budget scientist .

The monitoring of the Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) is of fundamental importance for understanding climate change [Dewitte & Clerbaux, 2017] [Dewitte et al 2019]. The Royal  Meteorological Institute of Belgium has a long lasting research interest in the measurement of the ERB.  Currently we are looking to hire a scientist who will work 1) on the validation of the global ERB instruments on the Chinese polar meteorological satellite series Feng Yung 3 (FY3) [Qiu et al, 2012], 2) on the improvement of the diurnal cycle sampling of the ERB by the use of the advanced geostationary imagers on Meteosat 8 and 11, Himawari and GOES 16 and 17.


Candidates should have the following qualifications:


  • an engineering master degree with scientific interest or scientific master degree with engineering interest.
  • interest in making a PhD, or earn a PhD already.
  • interest/experience in atmospheric sciences in particular satellite remote sensing
  • experience in programming, preferentially in C/C++
  • good knowledge of English
  • the knowledge of at least one of the national languages (Dutch and/or French) is an asset
