Radio soundings at Princess Elisabeth Antarctica

The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI) supports via an in-kind contribution the research and operational activities at Princess Elisabeth Antarctica research station (PEA) by supplying the necessary equipment for radio soundings. The International Polar Foundation also supports the radiosounding activities with logistics and manpower. For the radio soundings, a GRAW GS-E ground station and DFM-09 radiosondes are used.

Radiosoundings at PEA started in January 2014 and have been done during the following austral summers, with a break for season 2016/2017. Below, for each season a descriptive file is available which lists the available days and further notes.

The data is freely available on request. If you are interested in the data files, please send an email to alexander.mangold at meteo.be. Season 2018-2019 is also available via YOPP_SH (the international Year of Polar Prediction of WMO). The data of the radio soundings at PEA are also sent to GTS.
